Contemplative
At Burke Presbyterian Church, we offer a number of opportunities and spaces for contemplative worship.
There are quiet days for silent prayer and study during Lent and Advent, and two contemplative worship spaces are available daily: a Meditation Room for silent prayer and an outdoor seven-circuit Labyrinth.
Labyrinth Prayer Walk
The Burke Presbyterian Church labyrinth ministry provides a regular opportunity for contemplative worship. You are invited to walk the outdoor labyrinth, located in the Memorial Garden at the end nearest the parking lot entrance. An indoor labyrinth is open the first Monday and Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (with the exception of March). It is located in the Meeting House.
Quiet Day
It is far too easy to get caught up in the hustle-bustle of the season – barely taking time to stop and reflect on the real meaning of the season. A gift to oneself would be a bit of time spent at BPC on a Quiet Day.
Burke Presbyterian Church has two Quiet Days each year, in Advent and in Lent. On these days there is the opportunity to sit, read, reflect, journal, and walk the labyrinth. A simple meal of soup, bread, fruit and home-made cookies is available throughout the day.
Most recently, on the last Advent Quiet Day, there also were guided meditations throughout the day in the Meditation Room and a morning retreat from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
In the still and quiet comes the gift of hearing the message of God’s word.
