Back by popular demand, Godspell will be presented by the youth of Burke Presbyterian Church in a dynamic, energetic, and moving event! Conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. Godspell played over 2100 performances at the Promenade Theatre until it moved to Broadway for an additional 527 performances. The score was nominated for a 1977 Tony Award and won a 1972 Grammy Award.
Based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score, Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit, "Day By Day". As the cast performs "Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord", "Learn Your Lessons Well", "All Good Gifts", "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side", the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life. Don't miss this chance to see the good news of the gospel come to life and renew your spirit as our youth act, sing, and dance their way into your heart. You'll be humming "Day By Day" for days to come!
Admission to the show is free but all seats must be reserved by e-mail beginning February 17th, 2008. (You can pick up your tickets at Will Call after church services on Sundays or before the show on performance nights. Due to expected crowds, tickets not claimed 10 minutes prior to showtime will be given away to those on the wait-list.) Free-will donations will be accepted during intermission and after the show.
Pre-Show Dinner will be served between 6:00-7:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Dinner tickets will cost $10 for adults, $5 for children, and include a reserved seat for the show.
Snack Concessions during intermission will offer home-baked goodies, assorted candy and a variety of beverages.
