Preschool Programs
Three-Year-Old Program
Guidance in social behavior and language development are our main focuses. Loosely structured interaction with children is encouraged in free play as well as creative and sensory activities. Cognitive skills are developed as well as large motor skills. Science, basic colors and shapes, fine motor instruction through cutting and drawing, following simple directions, and creative play are all introduced. We follow a developmentally-based curriculum designed to balance structured and unstructured times each day.
Music and Chapel are offered twice a month each. Three field trips are planned for the year as well as several parent programs and 3 whole school activities (Health Fair, Science Fair, Native American Day). We have puppet shows, storytellers, and other guests frequently. Music Fun, a music and movement class, is offered monthly.
- There are three classes of three year olds (must be three by December 31) with 12 in a class and a teacher and an assistant. These classes meet Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- We also offer an optional third day for 6 children from our Older 3-year-old class which is available at the discretion of the director
Four-Year-Old Program
Group games, cognitive learning, social behavior, independence, self-reliance, pre-reading and math skills are stressed. Fine motor skills are improved using pencils and scissors. We use a developmentally-based approach to early handwriting called "Handwriting Without Tears" in which letters are introduced and practiced using a variety of senses. We foster curiosity through books, as well as comparing, sorting, categorizing, and beginning graphing. Kindergarten readiness is the emphasis.
Music and Chapel are each offered twice a month. Spanish is offered weekly. Several field trips are taken throughout the year, and we have several parent programs. We have many special visitors, including storytellers, puppeteers, and other guests. Special days include International Day, the Science Fair, Career Day, and the Health Fair.
- There are three classes of four year olds (must be four by October 31) with 12-14 in a class and a teacher and an assistant. These classes meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- We also offer an optional fourth day for 6-8 children from our Older 4-year-old class which is available on a limited basis at the discretion of the director.
Five-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten Program
Our Pre-K class is for children turning five before or during the fall of this school year or for children who would benefit from an extra year of preschool. We provide a very small student:teacher ratio which enables teachers to offer very individualized instruction. A special emphasis is placed on language through a wide range of sensory experiences, as well as role playing, music, and listening to stories.
Work habits are developed through an established routine, and individuality in planning and problem solving are encouraged. Independent work habits and self-help skills are taught. We encourage development of pre-reading and math skills through a wide range of experiences. We use a developmentally-based approach to early handwriting called "Handwriting Without Tears" in which letters are introduced and practiced using a variety of senses.
The Pre-K class has 12-14 children with a teacher and an assistant. This class meets Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
