Sunday Morning Adult Education
We believe that Christian Education is an ongoing journey of growing in faith. Through hospitable learning and study settings, we provide a variety of offerings for people who are life-long Christians as well as for those who are new to Christianity or who are reacquainting themselves with the Christian faith. With a commitment to heartfelt discourse and a readiness to hear differing viewpoints, beliefs, doubts, and wonderings, we invite and welcome all to participate.
Sunday Morning Classes
Classes are offered from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Classes cover a wide range of topics including Bible study, theology, social issues, and special topics such as world religions, elder care, and literature. In addition, the meditation room is available for quiet prayer and contemplation.
Weekday Offerings
Spiritual Growth does not just happen on Sunday morning.
Lent and Advent Devotional Booklets
These are made available for each of these seasons of the church year.
Lent Studies
In keeping with the liturgical season of Lent, we pause from our regular routine to do a special study during this time. Small groups that meet at various times and places are formed to participate in study, prayer and fellowship – all are welcome to join a group. Past studies have included Martha Grace Reese’s Unbinding the Heart (2009), and Adam Hamilton’s 24 Hours That Changed the World (2010). The 2011 study was John Indermark’s Gospeled Lives: Encounters with Jesus.
Quiet Days
One day is set aside from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the season of Advent and again during the season of Lent as a time of quiet prayer and meditation at the church. The labyrinth is set up in the Meeting House and appropriate reading material is laid out in the library and classrooms. Coffee, soup, and light refreshments are provided all day.
Library
Burke Presbyterian Church maintains an excellent library available for use by the congregation. It includes Bible commentaries, reference books, videos, and contemporary books for adults, youth, and children.
