BPC participates in many Mission programs in Fairfax County and the greater Washington area.
Bethany Women’s Center: A day shelter for homeless women in DC. BPC provides Christmas stockings filled with toiletries for more than 100 women each year.
Bikes For The World: An annual community activity to collect bicycles for shipment to countries that use them as a primary means of transportation.
Blood Drives: Working together with the Fairfax Inova Hospital Blood Mobile, BPC holds four blood drives a year.
BPC TreeHouse: An outreach program that provides social support and fellowship for people whose chronic illnesses or other special needs may inhibit their social interactions, community involvement, and sense of self worth. This group gathers one Friday evening a month at BPC for a shared meal and other activities. Each holiday season the group fills holiday gift bags for wounded soldiers recovering at Walter Reed.
Christ House: A healthcare residential facility serving the needs of homeless men and women in the Adams Morgan area of DC. BPC provides dinner once a month, sweaters and Christmas stockings filled with toiletries, and conducts a summer clothing drive.
CROP Walk: An annual interfaith community-wide event to raise awareness and funds to support efforts to eradicate hunger, both globally and locally.
ECHO: An affiliation of 20 local religious congregations that provides a pantry of food and clothing, rent and utility needs, and transportation for the needy. BPC donates foods and basic necessities on a regular basis, with a large food drive in September. We also provide holiday meals, fill backpacks, and donate toys for the ECHO families’ holiday shopping.
Fairfax Faith Partner Hypothermia Response Program: A program to provide warm, safe shelter to homeless persons during the cold winter months. BPC partners with FACETS and another church to provide shelter and meals for one week during the winter months.
Homestretch: The mission of Homestretch is to empower homeless parents with children to attain permanent housing and self-sufficiency by giving them the skills, knowledge and hope they need to become productive participants in the community. BPC volunteers provide a weekly meal for clients attending training. Through a Sacred Homes partnership, BPC directly supports one family.
Little Shoppe: Each year when children come to BPC for “Breakfast With Saint Nick,” they are able to shop for gifts for their family members. Proceeds from this activity have been used to provide weekend food for children at a local school.
National Capital Presbytery: We contribute to the Presbytery’s Mission Ministry to support many community and campus ministries, ecumenical councils and youth, international student, and adult outreach.
Shepherd’s Center of Fairfax-Burke: A non-profit interfaith organization supported by Burke Presbyterian Church to serve adults 50 years and older in the Fairfax and Burke areas.
Snacks and Backpacks Tutoring Club: We work with a nearby school to tutor and mentor children of our neighborhood who benefit from extra attention.
VOICE: Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement: VOICE is committed to bringing people together across religious, racial, ethnic, economic and political party affiliations to build a stronger Northern Virginia. It is a non-partisan coalition of almost 50 faith communities and civic organizations working together to learn from each other and take action on key issues affecting the community such as affordable housing, mental health in schools, health care, and immigrant rights.
