What is Rainbow?
Rainbow is our “retreat in the middle of the week” for children in kindergarten through 6th grade and is a primary spiritual formation ministry for kids at BPC. We gather on Wednesdays during the school year from 5:30–7:00 pm for an evening of fellowship, faith, and food. The first hour of a Rainbow evening is filled with a rotation of activities — choir, Bible time, recreation, and creative arts — that help us worship God and learn to be in community with one another. After those activities, we all sit down for an intergenerational family-style dinner. We close every Rainbow evening by singing “Sanctuary,” and then we go out to finish our week, heartened and refreshed by our time together.
Rainbow would not be possible without the help of our adult and teen volunteers; they are a crucial piece of what makes Rainbow especially wonderful. Raindrops is for younger children of Rainbow families. Parent participation is never mandatory, but it is an enriching way for your family to experience Rainbow!
Why Rainbow?
This is the 39th year of Rainbow at BPC, and there are good reasons why this has been such a long-standing, beloved ministry of our church. Rainbow is modeled around the instructions of Acts 2:42 — “The believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the community, to their shared meals, and to their prayers.” When we immerse our kids (and ourselves!) in the weekly rhythm of Rainbow, we are reminding them (and ourselves!) that church extends far beyond the hymns and sermons of Sunday mornings. Rainbow offers breathing room in the frenetic pace of a school week and nudges us to re-orient ourselves toward God’s beloved community. At the Rainbow dinner table, we model the way that Jesus used meals to share the welcome of God’s kingdom with everyone. And Rainbow fosters deep and sacred connections; the families that meet in Rainbow continue to walk alongside each other long after their kids have grown up.
We hope your family will join us this year! Follow this link to register, and feel free to invite family, friends, and neighbors!
